Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  2. I have been waiting for LOR's sale but it is usually at the beginning of July and haven't heard anything so I assumed they weren't doing one this year! Thanks for the info on the LED lights too! ~Teri in AZ
  3. We have planned our 2011 display and need 2 more LOR controllers and lots of LED lights - anyone have them for sale? I am in Arizona for shipping purposes! Thanks everyone! ~Teri in AZ [email protected] 480-699-6878
  4. I am interested in the used LED net lights if any are still available - please let me know! Sorry to see your display go! ~Teri in AZ
  5. We have had various problems with our HOA and I swear they have our name on a violation notice just waiting to find something~ They have never bothered us about our lights. We start putting them up the week following Halloween, we do quite a Halloween display too, and have never heard anything from them. Our mega tree and the large things on our roof and across the street we don't put up until 2 weeks before Thanksgiving so those aren't up too early. We start tearing down after the 1st of the year and it gets down when we can get to it:) Good luck but I bet you won't have any problems at all! ~Teri in AZ www.NevarezLights.com 128 LOR Channels in 2010, about 75,000 lights!
  6. Hey all, I had a request from a visitor - a little girl, that asked me to do I want a Hippopatamus for Christmas! I don't have that song - can someone sent it to me and I am going to get on it today!! Have a great one! ~Teri in AZ
  7. Hey all, This is the last song for the season and I would love it if anyone who has this song on their computer could send it to me! I have downloaded it off of I-Tunes but my downstairs computer won't send it to my laptop and I don't have enough memory to load I-tunes on my laptop. Thanks everyone! ~Teri in Az
  8. The day before Thanksgiving and my big annual light up on Thanksgiving day I sent out an SOS to anyone in the Mesa, AZ area for an LOR converter. Brian came to my rescue! Thanks so much Brian, you are amazing - see his light show at www.gilbertlights.com Mine can be seen at nevarezlights.com ~Teri in AZ

  10. Hey all, I got 4 storage tubs of lights off of Craigslist last weekend and we started going thru them last night! Got them for $20.00 and they are the large tubs! We only got thru the first of the tubs and had only 3 strings not work - that was out of about 25-30 strings! Great by - now I have to figure out what I am going to "build" to use up all those strings! Boy am I already excited about Christmas!!! ~Teri in AZ

If you have it will you e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks so much and Merry Christmas everyone!! ~Teri in AZ
  13. My husband helps set up the lights, cords and has some great design ideas! I am the one who does the sequencing and the kids are too young to help but love this time of year because we are outside all day every day so they can play with their friends without me telling them to clean their rooms! ~Teri in AZ
