Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready??? Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    1. Alabama_Santa, I know that we have talked before, but how close are you to the green? I might come see your show once it is up and running!
    2. Hey guys, I have convinced my friend to purchase a basic 16 channel LOR controller, and neither of us have the time to sequence. I've looked on some websites for free sequences, but there are very few 16 channel ones. We are on a budget, so free is best. I'll take any at all, but TSO sequences are what he really wants. Please help!
    3. Wow, thanks for all the info, I think i'm better off just buying a showtime package.
    4. I have also thought about this before, but with rope lights, and make them led. I would want to set a single string to Red, Green, Blue, or White. They would be placed so that when you turned them on in a sequence, it would appear as though they are chasing. RGBWRGBWRGBW would be the led layout. Separate male plugs for each, and available on 150 foot rolls that you could cut to length. EDIT: If you are talking about mini incandescent bulbs, Gremler has already done that here . This thread belongs in the new ideas section can a mod please move it?
    5. Thanks guys. Here are some pictures that he just sent me.
    6. Hey guys! I actually have a confession to make, I don't have a Christmas display. This year I put up a set of chasing lights, a lighted wreath, And a small Bethlehem star. Don't forget the christmas tree. This is mostly because I'm 14 and have no money. My family really doesn't have any money to waste on Christmas lights if you know what I mean. Ever since I can remember, My neighbor from down the street has put up Christmas lights. Last year, I convinced him to get the Mr. Christmas Lights and Sounds. This year, I told him about the Gemmy Lights and sounds, He got it. Him and I were ta
    7. I'm considering buying this. Is there any sort of sequencing software avalable for this?
    8. I am getting some money for Christmas and have been thinking about going computerized next year. I don't have enough money for LOR, so I have been thinking about making my own controller. I just wanted to know your opinions on the matter. Would It be worth the hassle to make a 32 channel non-dimmable channels, or should I just wait and save, then get a 16 channel LOR controller in the spring? I plan on using this to control the 110v relays. I could also use it for controlling RGB Leds. I'm not to sure on what kind of Rrelays to get. IS it possible to get dimmable relays since the control
    9. You need one of these to connect your Gemmy to a stereo. Then you would need a small amplifier, receiver, or powered speakers.

    11. We were going to rent one to tackle other projects for our roof where a ladder won't go. I just convinced my dad that I could use it for the lights too. The lights would be coming out of my pocket. The bucket lift won't. When your 14 and have no job, Cheap means everything.
