Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. I used 3 of the amazing snow men in my 2007 display. I rewired them to turn on immediately with power (no remote needed), and just wired them into my SSR's Worked great. I used my own home made snow juice recipe, and the results were excellent.... My snow juice recipe was 8oz dish soap (ajax because it was the cheapest at walmart), 8oz of Alcohol (70% white or wintergreen you choice) and 1gal of distilled water, gave me >1gal of snow juice that looked and performed as good as the "retail" stuff. Dissolved clean, looked great.. no problems for me... ymmv. A note on the snowmen machines.. I kept mine on the ground, and have a fairly small yard - and still used 3 of them... They just don't make tons of snow... Maybe up higher the results would be more impressive?
  2. Ok... So I have 3 of these I used this year... I used homemade snow juice in them - which worked great btw... 8 oz dish soap, 8 oz alcohol and 1 gal distilled water...fyi. Anyway, seasons over, now what!? Do I need to do anything to them for storage? run clean water through them? or some kind of lube or something? any advice would be nice THANKS.
  3. Thats what they look like alright! I'm still looking, so if you have any please pm me.
  4. Home Depot (and target) had some extremely over sized C9 walk way path lights.. My wife went nutz for these, and we only found 1 box, and will need several more. If you gots, let me know.

  10. Target went 75% last night too... It was a FRENZY. When I got there, there were 4-5 of those snowflake light projectors, 6+ lighted yard seals, tons of lights (no solid colors though - multi & clear only). And in 30 minutes, most everything was GONE. It was a MAD HOUSE. People were trying to grab stuff out of other peoples carts! IT WAS INSANE. The funniest site was seeing someone on the other side of the rack, trying to get the snow flake projector thing down from the top shelf - USING A CANE!
  11. It was impressive, but the guy is worth a few bagillion bux, he could have done better. I do like the snow signs though, and the tree's.... impressive.
  12. Most places around here were slim BEFORE christmas, at full retail... then 25% off before christmas - and most lights were gone. I've been looking for the last couple of days, at 50% off, and most EVERYONE has CLEAR and MULTI only. But that was the case BEFORE the % off - so it didn't matter much here. I manage to get 5 cases of blue and 1 case of yellow NOT THE COLORS I WANTED. Looks like in order to get the Red and Green I want - I'll have to buy at retail early next season  oh well.
  13. Check this out!! UV SNOW!!!!!!!!:waycool: http://snowmasters.com/solutions.php#FS1C I want that! OK: New homemade recipe needed --- What do we add for the UV snow!?
  14. Thats cool... I thought of doing that, but the family said they couldn't hear those songs another year in a row  I bought this other box for our tree last year.... I have no idea who makes it, what it is... Its remote control, 6 channels, 3 for clear, 3 for color... it twinkles, sequences, fades...etc.. Its pretty cool... Plus this our first year with a 12ft artificial tree on a rotating tree stand :waycool: ITS AWESOME! We got *everything* last year after christmas sales are cool.
