Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. This year I added 16 more channels of lor to my display. In those 16 channels I have 6 items that change color. The color changing items are new this year and and that has me worrying. I have the color changing items synchronized to change color in about 0.05 second intervals. Will that be a problem? If the items have both color lights on at the same time, I will most likely trip breakers left and right resulting in me having the change the display. I was just hoping that the 0.05 seconds really is just that and not anything more or less resulting in both colors on at the same time.
  2. Do you export it out as an MP3 into a specific folder or do you just save it. Exporting normally takes care of it.
  3. I buy my songs through Amazon MP3 then run them through Audacity and export them as a MP3. It seems to work for me...
  4. Thanks for the quick responses guys. I will be sequencing it as I found a sequence on LORsequences.com and I am crunched w/ time between the lights and schoolwork. Thanks to whoever sequence it was, sorry I forgot your name and don't feel like looking it up again. Ben
  5. I was thinking of syncing John Lennon's Happy Xmas (The War is Over). I am not sure if this is really family friendly and was wondering what the population of Planet Christmas thinks. Thanks for the input.
  6. I believe the problem has been fixed. I ran the song through audacity and exported it as a mp3. Thanks for the help
  7. I have been experiencing a very annoying problem with my sequencer. I have been trying to sequence Santa Clause is Coming to Town by Bruce, and whenever I scroll the screen left to right my animation is off. So in one screen the song is properly synced and then if i go to the right the animation is off. I am using Version 2.3.6. I am downloading v. 2.4 now hopefully that solves it. Note: It didn't help, this is kind of annoying. Thanks ___________

  9. After going to 3 radio shacks i found them. Yes they are GFI outlets...
  10. I burnt out 2 LOR fuses, I know that I am below the 15 amp max. I think they blew because of the rain. Now I have 16 channels that wont work because the fuse is blown, does any one know where I would be able to find these fuses? Thank you
  11. My aunt knows the people at the local news and told them about my lights. They are running a story on it tomorrow night. The only thing that I am afraid of is that it is not worth their while. I only have 20,000 lights with 32 channels of animation. Its supposed to start to rain around nine so hopefully that will stay at nine. I don't want to be tripping GFI's while on TV. This should be interesting...
  12. Thats what I was wondering. I'll give it a shot when I get home tonight...
  13. I was wondering if any one has been able to hook up their FM transmitters to a Microphone and be able to talk out of it. I was thinking that it would be pretty cool but I would probably freak out the viewers. Just looking for some input into that idea. Thanks
  14. Many thanks to all of you... Michael, my condolences as well. Also, I was going to think of something new for the lights this year, but since this is my first year with LOR, I am just going to dedicate all the lights to him.
  15. I did a sequence for Panama by Van Halen and I think it is the best one out of all of the others I have. I was thinking of playing it every Friday at 8. What is the community's view on non Christmas songs in the line up. Also, there is no curse words or other words in the song.
  16. My grandpa died last week, he was82. He got diagnosed with liver cancer on November 7th and died that night. I was really close to him and he is my first grandparent to go. In the summer he bought me 32 channels of LOR. Now he'll be seeing from above I hope.
  17. I'm behind. I have to put up the arches over the driveway, finish some static portions, and finish one more song. I have to be done by the day after thanksgiving as I have been telling people thats when they will be going on.
  18. I don't know if someone mentioned it but the ladder you are describing is used all the time in the fire service. It has two hooks at the end and we place it over the ridge vent and do walk on the ladder. It is used for cutting holes in the roof. I have thought about taking the roof ladder off of the trucks to do my roof, but I don't think the chief would appreciate it.
  19. One time I was putting up someone elses lights and I put the ladder in front of their garage. I was on the roof at the time and the home owner moved the ladder on me. I had to call my dad to move it back for me. Another time I was working on my roof and almost slide down it. It would have been like a 30 foot drop but luckily I tied myself off to a tree in the backyard and that caught me. That was pretty scary Other than that I don't mind ladders or heights, and hey I am a member of our fire department and we have a 110' ladder truck so maybe we will be called to get some one off the roof.
  20. Here's my sign I ordered it from Build A Sign on Sunday, should be getting it tomorrow. Tell me what you think.
  21. Well the formula for the circumference of a circle is pi(d). So times 3.14 times the length of your drive way and then divide to get the half circle. That should work. A 60 foot driveway is pretty big though so you might want to try different ideas.
