Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. It's been a long while since I've posted on here. But I figured I'd share our display for 2010. It's in need of some repair as the lights are going on 4 plus years. Not much was added....I even left out 20 mini trees so we only have 48 this year. Come by and check it out if you're in Alpharetta. http://www.Facebook.com/ChristmasAtTheStacks http://www.youtube.com/user/StackHouse701#p/u Only have 5 sequences at the moment 1812 Overture TSO Christmas Eve Illuminations 34th Street Overture Twist and Shout
  2. I needed to cover the extra lights from my windows but couldn't wrap the lights in a ball and hide them as I needed the additional cord length to save on extension cords. I did not want to wrap each extra light with tape nor did I want to mess with black out caps. So I cam up with this: It is pipe insulation from HD. It has some sticky tape over the opening running down the entire length of the insulation. We also used zip ties to keep it on. The also get stored this way. They may not look pretty in the day and an extremely small amount of light escapes but who cares. I'm the only one that notices. The general public never ever says a word.
  3. I'm crazy behind. I finished up my new tree topper and got my arches left to do. oh and TONS of sequencing.
  4. Sorry but my response will do nothing to answer this question.... I LOVED the Brookfield Zoo. I haven't been in 16 years or so. I was born up there and have many memories of the zoo. I would love to see some photos or video of the show if anyone has any....didn't know they did one

    GA Mini 2009

Hey Guys, I'm still not sure if I am going to be able to make it. Considering two things....Saturday at work is when I make some good money and I just submitted my taxes and had to $800.....AHHHH That's really going to hurt the 2009 display. So....I bought 30,000 christmas lights for the 2009 season and I'm thinking about getting rid of a good portion of those. Is there any interest from the GA members?
  6. This is where I got mine last year when I needed 68 easels http://www.wholesale-florist-supplies.com/florist.html Great service and cheaper per easel than the craft stores. Hope this helps.
  7. First year had : 15,000 lights and 96 channels Second year had 70,000 lights and 224 channels Next year will have 100,000 lights and only 240 channels......that's if I can find the power. I had plans to add MANY more channels but due to cutbacks in my schedule at work and this HORRIBLE economy, I'm cutting back on non-essentials.
  8. Thank you....I loved the chase effect with all those little trees......and what's the grave for arch stanton? So far it looks like, with 68 mini trees, I have the most on PC....Come on I know someone has more, and would love to see videos The total so far is 527
  9. Yes his mouth does move....he also swings his arms and shakes his hips....I have this guy and I wanted to use him for announcements but santa has been "over loved" by some little kids over the years....trying to fix him for 09.
  10. I must say this is my "theme" for 2009. Originally I planned to add at least 8 more controllers tothe 14 I currently have. Due to current economic conditions I do not see that being viable. SO...All my elements have 4 colors and can be controlled individually. Now, to save channels I still have the color blue on everything except now I can only turn blue ALL on or ALL off instead of each element individually. This opened up MANY "new" channels for new projects and none of my guests will even now the change. That is a way to add color without adding channels to the fountain. Now for my Bellagio mini tree line, I had (68) 4 color mini trees. BUT I could only chased with white and the other 3 colors used 7 channels each....instead of 68 channels per color. No one knew the difference and I even had PCer's who came by the display fooled. I hope that helped and it was just a ramble. Dennis
  11. Good one Joey, I get the same thing. It was amazing during election time and the the primary...we are at the neighborhood polling area and random people ran up to me and my father and asked about the house. My little sister is also popular around school because her crazy brother plays with all these lights. Dennis
  12. Are we running a rolling count and adding as we go or are we just stating how many we had..... I used 68 two foot mini trees.....all in the shape of the Bellagio fountain in Las Vegas. Mine also had four colors each so does that mean I had 272 mini trees???

    I quit !!!

It's funny because I said I quit buying lights this year after purchasing 22,500 but I just got back from Walmart with 10,000 more lights. I don't think I have enough power for all this.
  14. I went to many Walmarts in north Atlanta and the best ones were the one in Duluth and the one in Buford. I cleaned the Duluth one out of clear minis. The only way I got them was they all had fallen back behind the shelf and I was on laying on the ground digging them ALL out. People were giving me some looks.....I love it. Then I finished up with my clear mini needs at the walmart in Buford off HWY 20.....They had ALOT of christmas stuff left. In total..... 2,500 red minis 2,500 blue minis 2,500 green minis 15,600 clear minis only 23,100 lights and looking for 6,900 more to add to the display making a grand total for 2009......100,000 lights. But I just don't know what I'm going to do with the last 7,000 lights....maybe more arches. Great now I need more channels.......I need more $$$$$$$$$
  15. Nice job on the win Richard.... I really need to get out see all these displays. I would love to hear what the Georgian pc'ers think of my display, http://forums.planetchristmas.com/showthread.php?p=276880#post276880 There are SOOOO many little problems with this year's display. I have many half strings out but only two are even noticable...unfortunatly. It bugs me sooo much though. Also I wasn't able to completely finish one of my trees with white because all the stores sold out. It's gonna be slim pickens come after christmas sales. I'm having trouble getting videos edited with music. Will work on the ASAP Come check it out and leave a little note in the donation box saying hello.....I always love getting messages from the viewers. Dennis
