Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready??? Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    1. how do I upload a new photo

    2. I also use Internet explorer and also check the "remember me box". It must have something to do with only this forum, because it does not happen on any other site
    3. Can anyone come up with a good LOGICAL reason that I must completly relog in to this forum every 3 to 5 days. Does this happen to everyone or am I just the lucky one. I've been a member for 5 years and I don't remember it being this way in the past. Your log in was good for a couple of months until the last update of the the forum. Now its just one big pain in the behind. Paulj
    4. For Dougp, you wanted to see pictures of the older wireframes from Mr. Christmas I got at a garage sale. Here's 2 I hope they come out OK. Paul

    6. I came across 2 Mr. Christmas wireframes and was just wondering if anyone would know if the older they are, the more they are worth. One is a 6' santa clause and the other is a 6' angel. Both are in great working condition, both say new jumbo size on the front of the boxes, both pieces fold in half for storage, and both are dated on the back of the box 1994. Does anyone know if these are a great find or just another wireframe? Thanks for any info. Paul
    7. First of all I want to thank Patti for all her work on the members map. Sorry I have no room to host a mini, but if it end up to be around Orlando or anywhere south of Orlando that would be great. It would be a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive from Ft. Lauderdale but I'll be there. 8. For the best garagedoor cover,(in my opinon) nobody can come close to coverupusa.com. I've used mine for 3 seasons with zero problems. It still looks brand new. good heavy material, good color, i think its called a matt finish so that flood or spot lights don't bother the look, installs in 5 min. or less, no ropes, springs, clips, tape, screws or anything else needed to install on your METAL door. It comes in 4 sections with magnet strips completly around each piece. Check it out at coverupusa. added note; I spoke with Juan yesterday and he will be adding more choices in the next couple days
    9. Thanks to JEN GRISSETT for the 4 links to find the paper, my 3 snowmen will be looking bright and shiny again. I just placed my order and it will be delivered next week. Thanks again. Paul
    10. I would like to replace the holographic paper on a few of my display figures because the sun has faded all the colors to almost pure dull silver. I've tried craft stores, printing shops, sign shops and a few other stores here in Florida with no luck, they can't even tell me where I can get it. Does anyone have an idea of where to order this stuff from? Any help would be great.. Please and thank you. Paul
    11. I'm in need of 4--100ct. incandescent mini lights sets with 6 INCH SPACING. Any colors will work, just trying to rewire parts of my train. I would like to buy or trade. Please don't say action lighting. Please and thank you. Paulj
    12. First of all, I need need to thank Anthony in Houston for all the good advise on painting my grass. Continuing on with my grass growing problem from my first post, the grass kept growing fast and after about 2 weeks I gave up. We could hardly tell that it was even painted. Locations futher north in cooler weather should work out much better. I'm trying to put a couple of pictures up showing my front yard aprox. 25x50' I used 3 gal. of paint cut 1 to 1 with water. For me good idea, bad results. Paul
    13. OK hears the cold white facts-----It IS PAINT---it IS Liquid---it comes in 1gal cans or 5 gal buckets---it WILL NOT hurt or kill your grass---Its called field marking paint and can be purchased at many different paint stores everywhere, it's not hard to find. Prices range from about 50.00 to 80.00 per 5 gal. Shipping is a killer,so you need to purchase it local. I got mine at Ace Hardware by the gal. @ 18.00 ea. It was sprayed on with a cheap Wagner sprayer. It took about a total of 3 hr. to put on 3 coats on my 25'x 50' front yard. It looked GREAT!!! Now for the problem----I live in south flo
