  1. Thanks for all the great info. I'm thinking of adding 2 or 3 15amp breakers. Each will have a single outlet. I can then run a 100' extension cord to the outside and branch off of that with a triple tap of some sort and basically keep branching it out. All LOR controllers will run on their own additional 15 amp breaker. Does this sound OK. Any suggestions? Scott...
  2. Just a random question that I've been thinking about with all the large displays people have. How does everyone distribute power outlets throughout their displays? Alot of people have upwards of thousands of mini lights in their displays. Assuming 100 light strings and a 15amp breaker you can connect @36 strings. Using the rule of 3 when connecting strings together you would need 12 different outlets (6 Pairs) to plug the strings into. How does everyone accomplish this? Do you have extension cords plugged into extension cords with multiple ends, etc... etc... etc... Or do some of you have
  3. Bill, Thanks for the info. Just to clarrify; if I use bulk 3 wire from Action lighting I would actually put two power cords on each run? Each cord would connect to the neutral center wire and one of the outside wires. I would then plug both in and use LOR to control which color I wanted when. Is this correct? Also, is there a limit to the length a ropelight can be prior to cutting it and putting an end on? Or could I conceivable have one rope light 150' long. Scott...
  4. I understand the difference between 2, 3 and 5 wire ropelights being the addition of multiple colors to the ropes. My question is how do you control which color light is on. If it's only powered by 1 cord how do you control the red / green color in that light. I want to be able to use 3 wire ropelights around my roofline and change the color from solid green to solid red with effects using LOR. Scott...
  5. Lon J, When making cords from SPT2 wires or the outdoor landscape wire how difficult is it to put the male / female ends on each one. I'm assuming that you use this to run power between displays and not to your controllers. I think I heard something about vampire clip ends which would make things incredibly easy. I'm going to use SPT2 next year as I spent who knows how much $$ on 9 ft indoor cords this year. Scott...
  6. Scott, I'm doing 30" trees right now. They had easels at 40" and 50" as well but the price was ridiculus. As it was I paid like 3.00 / easel for the 30" ones. Just wanted to try it out. They would probably look really great at the 40" size, but would also require an additional string or 2. Scott...
  7. No pic's yet. Waiting to get the other 3 done first. Then I'll snap some and post em'. thanks.
  8. I understand you can buy bulk rope light by the spool. What is the difference between the different types: 2,3 or 5 wire? Why would you use one over the other? Scott...
  9. I can now admit that I'm hooked. I built my first 3 mini treeslast night. They turned out extremely well. If I hadn't run out of zip tie's I would have completed all 6 that I have materials for. I can see how this stuff can become addicting. I'll buy some more ties today and finish the other 3 tonight. I wish I could build more but I could only find 6 floral easels at the craft store. There's always next year. For this year it will be 2 clear, 2 red and 2 multi. Not bad. Thanks all Scott...
  10. Assuming a 20 amp breaker with nothing else attached to it but lights how many strings of lights can you attach to this breaker? I think I read somewher that it's like 45 strings. Using the rule of 3, or even 4 or 5 as most people do, how does everyone plug all their strings of lights, etc.. into the power outlets. Is it just as easy as alot of extension cords and alot of power surge protectors?? Scott...
  11. Just wondering how everyone stores their mini strings? Do you fold them up, use a reel of sorts or the snowball that I've heard about? Can someone also explain the snowball? Thanks Scott...
  12. Hi All. I am very interested in getting started with this hobby. Everything I've seen is incredible. I have a few questions though. It seems a bit late to get anything really going for this year other than some static lights and maybe some displays. I would like to start planning next years display though so I can prepare for the Dec 26 sales. I consider myself fairly handy and think it would be easier/cheaper to make as much equipment as possible. I plan on making my own length rope lights, and controller boxes for LOR. I just want to make sure I understand everything completely bef
