Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. I met a man from Upper Arlington I believe, but I can't remember your name or the website you referred me to. I'm the Black lady with the bad back. I know its not Joker, that's the nice man that carried my stuff to the car. You were tall, slender, and dressed for golf. If you're here, please IM me your info. Thanks. buyer from Louisville, if you change your mind on the mini trees, let me know 8^)
  2. thanks guys I'll try 2nd port in the usb. i have a dead/loose socket so my utility wasn't reading my last 2 boxes. i hooked those 2 boxes directly to my ell. I was having problems with channels sticking all over the place before the reroute and i still am, but at least i see all of my boxes now. Next things I'll try and do to stop the sticking 1. Move cat5's away from power cables 2. Reset boxes Hopefully this will do it. guess i should check my firmware on boxes as well if that doesn't work. Since I'm not tech savvy, I thought buying pre-made boxes would be the way to go and unfortunately I've had trouble the last 3 years, but I'm still trying
  3. The minis are in today's paper for lowes for the same price. This circular is probably this week's ad and not Black Friday
  4. Bring in used or non working Christmas lights to Home Depot, and get 3.00 off leds. http://www.homedepot.com/hdus/en_US/DTCCOM/HomePage/Superfeatures/Events/Chirstmas_Light_Exchange/images/eco_lights_hero.jpg Per ad "Bring your old incandescent Christmas light strings to any The Home Depot store for recycling, and receive a $3 OFF coupon for the purchase of Energy Efficient LED lights!! (limit 5 discounts per customer)"
  5. I wish, but my email said it was a great adventure. doesn't appear to be an adventure they're willing to do again even with the response from here. Oh well, was waiting for payday before buying and missed out by about a week or two.
  6. last box sold by mfg last week with no new orders. If anyone has a case...or four, that they want to sell, I'll take them off your hands. Thanks
  7. Snowflakes are sold out. Anyone have any extras to sell?
  8. Made in China, you and I are in complete agreement
  9. I'm in Mansfield. My husband HATES helping. He doesn't like getting on the roof but he does it. I'm not sure how long it takes to get from Dayton to Mansfield or vise versa but maybe 2009! It's my absolute favorite thing to do. It's much worse now that I have the Gemmy light show. I may need rehab, I'm already thinking of building my own LOR thingy (sorry my terminology is newbie style at best).

  10. just checking your profile since you said you were doing things by yourself. I feel the same way. My husbands helps with construction, but gripes alot. wish you were a little closer so that we could help each other. dayton here. Arlinda

  11. really wanted extension cords, but that's not a part of the 50% off
  12. Bill and Everyone else, May prayers go out to all of you. I saw on your profile that you're an electrician. Do you have unions that you could join and tap into their insurance? Probably not, I'm sure you've tried that option. But maybe you should think about doing your display next year. I'm not done with mine and i'm, unfortunately, not the type to not be stressed about it. Right now I feel like I could scream because of all the little delays, tech difficulties etc. Maybe puts some lights out on the back porch where the raccoons are and do a little show for them. Hope you fell better mentally and physically. Until then...all of you be blessed

  14. Wind-o-light is what I'm going with. The problem was I have inset windowframes on the bottom floor where I can install them easily with the spring-tension rods, but my windows upstairs are flush against the house and didn't know how to attach them without nails, screws, etc. Thanks for the info on pc discount. Didn't see that last time i was on their site.
