  1. We try to do a "kid friendly" Halloween display each year. We get all ages of TOT's, but a lot of them are very young ( five and under). Was just wondering; do most people try to do the frightening, scarry thing or do you tone it down so as not to be to scary for the little ones? Also, does anyone have any ideas for something for a "kid friendly" Halloween besides the normal ghost and jack-o-lantern blowmolds and orange lights? I do an LOR light/music show the week before and Halloween and have gotten a good response from that, but it seems rather pointless to run it on Halloween night because everyone is walking the street and not in their car and in to much of a hurry to watch it. Any thoughts?
  2. My wife made a table decoration by putting a string of mini lights in a jar with a bunch of marbles. It looked pretty but quit after a few hours. When I took it apart to try to fix it I found the light string wires were burnt to a crisp. There is definitly a heat issue with mini's in an enclosed space.
  3. I get most of my designs from coloring books. The hard part is enlarging them. As for stock size I would go with 3/16 or 1/4. Thats the most common size light clips.
  4. I agree with Disney. My first year I synchronized mainly to the words. It looked good on the animater but when I lit the yard it didn't look so good. It looked (to me) to blinky. Thats when I started to concentrate on the key words and phrases of the song and started doing more chases and fades. I try to sync to all the elements of the song and not just the words. Someone wrote on here a few years ago that your synchronizing should look just as good without the music as it does with it. I haven't reached that point yet, but I'm working on it. This is only my opinion. I don't think there is such a thing as bad synchronizing. If you like it and are happy with it, thats all that counts. If you find a style that works for you-great. But I'm always open to new ideas and suggestions. There is always (at least in my display) room for improvement.
  5. I put mine on a timer a power it separately. I hate to "waste" a channel on a sign.
  6. I did that last year. I threw a sheet over my mini trees and then put a jack-o-lantern with the bottom cut out on top. The jack-o-lantern didn't show up very good at first so I put in a balled up string of mini lights. I thought it looked pretty good and it was really quick and easy to do.
  7. I LIKE that idea. Be sure to keep us posted on your progress.
  8. Thanks Ernie. I found that same link last night. Can't believe you found it in only two days. I've been looking for two years.
  9. The audio of this quote. I heard it once a few years ago in a halloween show and wanted to get a recording of it to use in my show. I've done an Internet search but haven't found anything.
  10. Alfred Hitch**** had a quote "Believing in ghosts is a matter of common courtesy, after all, ghosts believe in you." Does anyone know where I can download this?
  11. I know you said you wanted to keep it to two channels, but with one channel per spine (8 channels) you could do all kinds of neat patterns. Just about anything you could do with a mega tree. Just what I envisioned when I first the picture of the ball.
  12. I found replacement C7 wiring for village peices at Hobby Lobby. Don't see why these wouldn't work on blowmolds. Don't remember if they had switches or not.
  13. Whenever we try to explain to anyone in the neighborhood which house is ours, we alway get that "Oh, the one with all the Christmas lights". It does make you feel good.
  14. I'm in Broken Arrow. I've been doing LOR for 4 years now, but still have a lot to learn. I'd be glad to help in any way I can. Just shoot me a PM with any questions.
  15. Really need more information. How many channels, how many lights? If all your wanting is an all green tree or an all white tree, all you need is two channels.
  16. I built a 6' mini-mega tree for my office to help visualize my sequencing. Eight channels/slices with a 100 ct string per channel going from the bottom to the top, back down to the bottom and back up the top and back down to the bottom again. So actually it looked like 4 strings per channel. I think it turned out looking pretty good. In fact, my wife wanted to make some more to put out in the yard with the big mega-tree, but I didn't have that many more channels available,
  17. Going to the OK mini tomorrow. Looking forward to a fun weekend.
  18. The purpose of this forum is for people with similar interests (Christmas decorating) to interact with one another. Seems to me it would make more sense to make it easier to contact other people, not make it harder. Just my thoughts. Add my vote for reinstating the members list.
  19. I'd be interested in one too.
  20. Yea, I've been watching the weather reports all week and the weatherman can't seem to make up his mind about what it will do.
  21. With the weather warming up and things turning green outside its kinda hard to spend time indoors sitting in front of the computer.
  22. Rather than ball my "mega strings" up I roll them in a circle and store them in the metal christmas tins popcorn comes in.
