Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. Dennis, I had a very similar setup to you in my display last year, except I was using a moving spot light instead of pixels. You can get a controller like this to contact between your Enttec Pro and your pixel strips. http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/701799/209915969-509914025/LT-DMX-2801-DMX-SPI-Decoder-support-WS2801-WS2803-drving-IC.html You will need to get a power supply as well. There are a ton of choices when connecting up RGB equipment. I am also trying to learn as much as I can.
  2. Thanks for the information Ted. Merry Christmas Everyone.
  3. That is amazing. I don't even understand how you would even think of putting together those trees!
  4. Ted, Where did you get your "flex ribbon RGB string" from? Do you have individual pixel control of it like the CCR?

  6. Nice. Thanks for sharing the picture. Very impressive!
  7. heystew, I was just wondering how you have 12 enttec Pros wired to one computer? Did you run into any problems with the computer powering this many units? Are you using a usb dongle? I currently am using 1 enttec Pro to control 2 moving heads and would like to expand to a lot more dmx next year.
  8. I am interested in doing an RGB leaping arch for next year’s display. Does anyone have experience doing this? I have read a lot about RBB lighting, and am looking for details of exactly what product you used. Is ribbon or bulb based lighting better? Thanks for the help.
  9. Really great story! It is wonderful that you turned the story into now giving back to the community with your display. Thanks for sharing this. It should give us all hope.
  10. Denny, I am looking for the life size camel which is $70 plus $44 shipping on americansale. I was hoping to not have to send that much money for one figure. I will keep looking and order it from americansale if I can't find it anywhere else. Thanks for your help.
  11. Thanks Mr. Griswold for the response. I think I found the shepherd, so I just need the camel now. I will keep looking. I just hope I find one before Christmas.
  12. I recently purchased an empire nativity blow mold. I believe it is the “life size” edition. It did not come with the camel or the shepherd. I bought them on ebay, only to realize they are much smaller than the other figures. My fault, I was so excited, I never really looked at the dimensions. Ahhhh… So I am again searching for these two pieces. I have not been able to come across anything on ebay or craigslist, but did find them on americansale.com. It was $70 for the camel and $100 for the Shepherd. Anyone know of a cheaper located that I might be able to find these items? I want to get them soon to I can complete my set for this year. I was able to get all the other pieces for $150, so I really didn’t want to put down $200 with shipping to complete the set. Also, if anyone wants a small camel or shepherd, let me know .
  13. I would also be interested. Need to upgrade about 20,000 light to LED next year.

    No action

I always come here and look to see if anyone posts, and then leave. I guess I am a forum stalker. I am getting excited about Christmas though!
