Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. Walmart had their 1 1/8" White cup holder hooks on sale or mispriced. I'm not sure. I bought a box of 20 and it was supposed to be $3.54. Got to the register and they ring up at $1.00. Asked if it was the right price and she said yes. Tried the other walmart in town and they rang up the same. Didn't check the other colors, but I got a few boxes for $1.00 each.
  2. I have at least 6 boxes of red crystalized rope light maybe more at storage. $8.00 box plus shipping.
  3. I was looking at these in our Lowes & Home Depot. I noticed that many of them are warped. What's to keep these from warping? Normally the lattice will hold them straight. Are you noticing any problems keeping them straight without additional support to hold them that way?
  4. Was just at WalMart and bought 2 package of 1 1/4" White Mug Hooks, 20 count. The price on the hook said they were 3 something a package. Got to the register and they ring up $1.00. Asked if it was the right price and she said that's what they ring up... so if your needing hooks. Not sure of the other colors, try them at a scanner and see.
  5. I called Target corporate office and after an hour, 30 min of which was trying to explain to a guy in India what a 100 count mini light string was, I was able to confirm that they will only have the solid red, blue, green, gold, purple in the Phillips brand. Target brand will only be the multi and clear. The Phillips brand is the exact same as last years target brand, they just repackaged them in the name brand box and are getting 2 more dollars a box... Just like they did with the gold last year. I guess they saw that was still bought them. But I bet they notice this year that fewer will buy the red/blue/green. Better hurry to Walmart before they run out...
  6. how does the "leaves" hold up to the ultraviolet light from the sun? I would think they would get all brittle after a couple of years use? I have 2 I was going to put out this year myself.
  7. I was just in Target for over an hour with the managers. Their plan-o-gram does not have a place for any target lights other than the 100 clear/white (color lights/color wire), 100 clear/green, and 100 multi/green. They have 50 red/green, 50 blue/green, 50 multi/green, 50 clear/green. That is all they say it shows unless a revision comes. I then spent an hour on the phone dealing with target corporate for them to tell me they are only going to have the philips brand of red, blue and green in the 100 count. So it's $3.99 if you want them from Target. They started this last year with the gold when they moved them from Target brand to Phillips brand. I guess they saw that people still bought them, so their going to make the extra couple bucks per set on them this year.
  8. Michaels will have them again in a few weeks after the halloween stuff comes down. Should be $79.99 again this year.
  9. Just wanted to drop by and say hello

  10. Did they change the supplier of the led stuff? Looked that way from their website, but they didn't have the manufacture on it. I've heard of lots of problems with the philips led stuff they had been carrying in previous years.
  11. What about purple or blacklight ultraviolet for halloween?
  12. 3rd controller has been sold and paid for. Sorry but I couldn't wait any longer.
  13. no you need the software running on another machine. and yes there are preprogammed song you can buy from some people on here, and some that are given away free.
  14. Looks like various sizes and lengths of pvc pipe. Have been thinking about it. Also have thought about pre wrapping some smaller dead trees that can be staked down and then hung in the attic of the barn for the next season. Those would be like 10 min trees though.
  15. I was thinking of doing something along these lines, but with 4 20' circumference circles placed 2 ft apart. Started building them and had to move, so put it on hold. concept looked good in the visualizer.
