Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. The users are not stranded they are getting the pixels for $.58 a piece, cheaper than the coop was for? They are just ordering them themselfs Since it worked out cheaper in the long run. The coop did not fail it never happened. If you are able to get them cheaper and they work with Smart String Controlers that would be great! please let me know, as I will send the users to you instead of my supplier to order. RJ
  2. Well I stay out of these mine is better than yours stuff but if wrong information is posted I have to correct it. Smart strings are not just pixel nodes. they support all kinds of led devices like the rest of the controllers. Please read for yourself as there is a lot of information running around that just is not the straight up. If smart strings is not right for you I really hope you find something that works great for you. But do a little looking at the stuff yourself do not let others do your thinking for you. I have more faith that you are smart enough to make up your own mind on what you want. And since the only thing I get from it is the joy of seeing people impress themselfs by succeeding as a DIY'er it does not matter that much to me which you use. If your not DIY, then LOR will have some more stuff out. Or MPH has some commerical stuff to look at. If you are, then there is a number of other DIY choices other than mine. Check out Aussie phils site they are doing lots of stuff, check out Doityourselfchristmas. What ever you use I hope it works well for you and you enjoy what you create. But create something yourself don't let people tell you what you need to do. RJ
  3. Heres the tree setup and in the show. It is just some shorts from the show but show some of the things I was able to pull together in short time for it. http://www.vimeo.com/17550266 RJ
  4. You can catch up on that here : http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=3554.0 RJ
  5. I have both if you need them but I am in Avon Park. RJ
  6. Thanks, now that I have it setup for testing I had a chance to do some real sequencing with it and thought you might like something a little better to judge it by. http://www.vimeo.com/17207457 RJ
  7. I designed some simple RGB controllers I call Smart Strings that hook onto the strings and get power and data feed to them over one cat5 cable. I wanted to see how simple and cheap I could do RGB stuff. The tree is basic this year with just 16 strings, a little under 1000 leds and just under 3000 channels. But for under $800 for everything needed but the pole and pvc I do not think I did too bad. I just threw some sequencing together to try it out. Now that I can see what I am doing I can get to work on the real sequencing. It just runs of of one of my Lynx Dongles. I expect to bump it to 2000 leds next year. Heres video of it. http://www.vimeo.com/17175437 The music was just thrown in and is not intended to match the lights. RJ
  8. This is not exactly new. It might be about to change for LOR users but we have had that with Light Normalization in the Lynx Express for years. RJ

    RGB Flood Lights

I stumbled across this thread and read it to find that my comments on the Aether has upset a few members. Please allow me to clarify some stuff and hopefully fix this. The comment cut and posted in here is word for word correct in what was said. The context is being used differently. The comment was posted to stop the constant PM's to me asking why the Aether cost twice what a Mighty mini does to build. I have never seen any of these lights other than a MM and at the time the only ones I was being asked in comparision was the MM. In the MM the users buy there own LEDs and there is endless threads of them looking under every Ebay rock to find them even cheaper. There is also also endless threads about falure rate, Leds manufacting them backwards, how to test the batch you got as you are installing them to make sure you are not putting one of the bad ones in the pcb. I'm sorry but that does not sound like high quality to me.Then I look at the spec and see the 1/2 w leds are really not near a 1/2 watt and on those same leds no info on light output just inflated 1/2 watt rating. It was not directed at any person or design. The other item is that it is correct it all comes from China. I meant to put "Ebay Chinese leds" and until reading this requote did not notice I left the Ebay part off. Now to answer the rest, As far as it being only for DIY / DMX users: Of course it is, I am a DIY designer and all my stuff is based on DMX so this goes without saying. I am neither in compitition with any other users nor am I in business so I am not going to work too hard to convience someone to use my design over someone elses. I design stuff I want and then offer it to the DIY community. The only thing other than extra work for the coop manager we get from large numbers is cheaper price for all users getting kits. If you notice I am never in these treads arguing why mine is better. I make a thread and show some pics to try and get across the ability and then people can have them if they want them. The fact is, if someone had a flood that put out the light and was self contained like the Aether and ran on DMX that I would not have had to pay $500 or more for, the Aether likely would have never been made. But since it was I was not going the easy route the idea as a hobby to me is to challenge myself. If anyone does take offense to me explianing why the Aether is more expensive, then I must say I am sorry. RJ
  10. A fat joke? Thats the best you could come up with Chuck? Man with someone like me for the target and all the time you had to work on it you would think you would of come up with something more original and a lot better. Must be slowing down in the old age huh? LOL Just kidding! glad to see you will be there also. Guys I was not really planning to get in the way with a presentation, just bringing them for people to play with as a show and tell kind of item. People should be sick of hearing me by now. Let the other people have a chance. And I know either BJ or Dad will ride over with me. RJ
  11. I plan to try and be there. Thought I would bring the Aether prototype for everyone to play with. It would be the first time it was in public. Got a couple of other new toys that they can play with also that have not been seen. If that is something you would like. RJ

    LOR LED Flood Lights

I just run across this post. The link to the Lynx Aether was bad here is a good link : http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=2641.0 It should run in the price range you guys are giving for completed flood Mighty setups per flood light which is good, I figured it would be more since the power supply, and controller is all built in and it uses the latest constant current drivers to control current. RJ
  13. The is only one really bad thing about this get together. I can't come myself! You guys have one of the best get togethers and I am sure this one will be also. Hope to make it.. maybe next year. RJ
  14. RJ Where is your Christmas light show ? Moondancer

  15. You can't be RJ! I 'm RJ! LOL Will the real RJ please stand up.... RJ
