Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. I haven't seen any really to speak of....for about a week now. I took ours down NY weekend, but if you think about it, we should do as long after as we do before Christmas! Right?! :-)
  2. I'd go in on some of these too if you still have some to spare! :-)
  3. I say #1. The more trees, the better they look with chasing and alternating. I have 8 with red and green channels each, and am making more to have 10 or 12 for this year.
  4. All ours, the motors are inline...which I'll just splice out and rewire for next year I guess.
  5. On the lookout for good quality deer, no motors, white lights, probably wireframe, that store well. We've got 3 older WalMart style (with motors) that are getting kind of worn out. Haven't found any that I really like so if you can post pics or links to anything that may fit the bill, I would appreciate it.
  6. 3 here. Looking for new ones...w/o motors. PC total: 405
  7. I was just going to post this...I grabbed 3 myself...I'll find a use for them somewhere I'm sure! (probably on computer/workbench stuff)
  8. I too am possibly going to be tasked with one, so I'm intrested in this subject too...I know there are a lot of posts and things about them, but the latest/greatest is always good to know! :-)
  9. How is the Mini 9?? Did you run your show from it by chance?
  10. I was surprised to see these at Brookstone in our local mall while doing some Christmas shopping this year!
  11. Sorry to hear this...pets are such awesome pals and members of the family. Every aspect of daily life it seems they are involved with. Keep your thoughts positive and hopefully you find a new family member when the time is right.
  12. For me it's pick a day of the week and load them in my pickup and drop off on my way to work! Sorry...had to comment! :-P But really...if you have a huge amount, you could try a place called Freight Quote, they are a freight bidding company that finds the best rate for your shipment. Not sure what it takes to do, or their requirements, I just know of them because their headquarters were in a building I used to work in years ago. Being in KC, they may have somewhat of a "local deal"...who knows. Again, I think this would be for bigger shipments, not the standard UPS/FedEx sized 50lb boxes...more like a pallet or 100lbs+.
  13. How is the durability of their double dipped paint? Can you tell a big difference, or have you not used any other to be able to compare it with anything else?
  14. Wanted to share some photos of both red and green C7 incandescent bulbs, showing the traditional opaque paint vs transparent paint bulbs. These are from Hobby Lobby. Kil-A-Watt readings: Opaque = 1.02 Amps 124 Watts Transparent = 1.01 Amps 122 Watts Kil-A-Watt readings: Opaque = .99 Amps 120 Watts Transparent = 1.02 Amps 122 Watts It is really hard for me to determine what I like better. What are your thoughts?
  15. I thought this was interesting this afternoon while putting my bargin purchases away this year so I thought I would take come pics, and share with everyone. It shows the difference in color and brightness in a few of the brands of mini lights out there. These are all 100 ct, straight out of the box taken in the same photo. These are the Walmart compared to Philips (Energy Efficient). Kil-A-Watt readings are: Walmart = .31 Amps, 38 Watts Philips = .18 Amps, 21 Watts These are the Philips (Energy Efficient) compared to Target (Energy Efficient). Kil-A-Watt readings are: Philips = .18 Amps, 21 Watts Target = .18 Amps, 22 Watts These are the Walmart compared to Philips (Energy Efficient). Kil-A-Watt readings are: Walmart = .33 Amps, 39 Watts Philips = .17 Amps, 21 Watts
  16. Yes they have green. I got 4-5 sets last year, attempted to use them to wrap my tree trunks, and I didn't get along with them. All but one box has been either cut up for cords, or destroyed. I'd be happy to send you the one box unopened that I have. It's from Hobby Lobby...no telling if it all works, 3 of the boxes 1/3 of the net didn't light up when I took them out of the box. I'll check it before I send it though....if you want it. I'll never use it, so don't worry about paying me for it...consider it a New Years present! :-)
  17. Yeah it would be rough going up there Tim, sorry to hear your progress is not so good. I got 85% of mine down today. Nice weather today and tomorrow so I'll take the rest down tomorrow afternoon and be done. Not all put away, but for the most part it will be. Leaving some stuff out that needs fixing or redoing, everything else will be away. But remember I don't have NEAR as much stuff as you do! :-O
  18. Does anyone have or know where to get a Santa or Light related stocking hat? Or baseball cap?? I think PC should add them to the store, but until then, I've been searching and can't find much.
  19. Awesome, thanks for posting these! We were there after Thanksgiving, in hopes of seeing the Christmas Display, but they were just tearing down the Thanksgiving display! :-( It's always such a grand display, like you said....very impressive every season!
  20. What's a more durable bulb, the C7 opaque or transparent? Just wondering if one is more durable as far as the paint/chipping.
  21. Awesome idea, they look awesome...but I was wondering about the durability as well. Will be interested in the results!
  22. It looks like there are Pure White, Red, Green, Blue, and Orange? Orange wasn't on the pricelist...and now the Pure White isn't on your photo. Just FYI :-) So the LEDs inside are colored as well as the lens cover?
  23. So with all the "tumors" we've removed from the CDI strings this year....I know there are a bunch of these hot dogs laying around! I think we should make some sort of piece of art out of them. :-) Any thoughts, ideas??? Maybe some centerpieces for the tables at PLUS...or a big glass jar at Paul's table "guess the number of tumors"? HAHA j/k
