Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. I hope you find the nose your looking for though. I dont have one.
  2. Louie, At my 2 Wal-Marts...the 3-4 green LED boxes are in the Blue Flats. Do you think there are more Green LEDs in the other unopened Blue Flats? If so...I may open them for Wal-Mart. How did you get some one time and then more the next time around? I will keep going back if I have to. Thanks
  3. I just put a couple of pieces of 1x2's with Lights attached on the roof this past weekend. I thought about rope too but seemed a bit to noticeable for me. About 80ft straight across my roof and on the pitches. I attached some brown string (about 5ft a piece) to the wood and shingle clips to the other end of the string (every so often down the 80ft)...and then stuck the shingle clip under shingles on the roof, on both the back and front of the house. Its working beautifully. Having it tight on both sides evens it out nicely. You cant see it at night at all and barely during a sunny day. Just my thoughts.
  4. Bob, Good call on the screws. Screws or bolts are the only way to go in my experience. The Diner looks fantastic. Cant wait to see the final piece.
  5. Would a 3 point controller do the same thing Holdman's star does? I know his is on LOR. I would just turn mine on and let it stay on. I just want the same effect Richard's has. Thanks
  6. Bob, They look fantastic. Congrats on another great display this year. You deserve it man. Cant wait to see your lights on TLC.
  7. Do Val's remember all settings...so when the timer for the night turns off and back on the next day...it starts right back where it started? Thanks
  8. In your opinions...what are the best big box store LEDs you can buy? 5m, M5, C7, etc. And colors of course. Thanks
  9. Can the PC units handle 20 Amp Fuses each side? If so...I think I will upgrade my too. Thanks
  10. I wasnt planning on starting so early but last Sunday was so nice...I went ahead and put up most of my roof lights. Looking forward to making a big splash this weekend. Have fun with your decorating.
  11. Yes...I am describing as if I am standing in the street with the view of the picture. There are 2 bushes to the right of the driveway, 3-4 in the middle under the porch, and a ton to the left side of the porch. Thanks guys.
  12. Hey Gang...I am looking for about 20 strands of Warm White LED c9 or c7 Strands. They can be big box strands. They wont be prominent in the display (backyard stuff). If you have 1 or all 20...please let me know. I am very interested. Thanks
  13. Ok gang...I am going back and forth on my display, so I wanted to ask PC. I will have about 60K lights this year. Attached is a picture of my home. Here is the basic layout of the display...I will have a Mega Tree on the right side of the driveway. Lights outlining the roof, dirveway, windows, garage, hand rail, etc. and wreaths in the windows and above the garage. I will have a 5 (6ft) tree line, 10 mini trees, and a Mega Arch in the front yard with 2 (10ft) 3-Minute Trees amongst a few other odds and ends. I was wondering...what do you guys think about the bushes? My plan all along was to fill the bushes on the far left, the middle and to the right side of the driveway with 2 colors. My question is...is there something else I can do to make it look great but not use 80 total strands of lights to wrap in the bushes? Looking for suggestions.
  14. Yeh the weather here in Nashville has been terrible until yesterday. I decided last minute to start 2 weekends before I was scheduled to. I went up on the roof and started outlining my house. I finished about 90% of the outline yesterday. Its a great start but just feels way to early to me.
  15. Welcome to PC. All questions are welcomed.
  16. This year I am going to secure my 3 color Mega Tree (9600 lights) at the ground with a pvc circle. Last year I used individual stakes but that was when it was only 1 color. How do you all secure your rings to the ground? And whats the best way to secure lights to the ground in your opinions (ie. stakes, pvc ring, etc)? Thanks, Brandon
  17. Love the idea. Never seen it done before though.
  18. Hey Gang, Looking for up to 60 boxes of the Target Brand Clear 100ct Mini lights. Does anyone have some they would be willing to sell? Thanks, Brandon
