Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready??? Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    7. Each ace is independently owned so every store is diffrent. There is one ace near me that has been cost plus 10% since the middle of december, and they are willing to make deals. Then there is one that goes 50%off after christmas and thats it. There is another ace around here but they never stock much in the way of lights so I have never checked their policy.
    8. Just stoped into the Home Depot on State Street in Eagle and they had a ton of christmas for 75% off. They had 100's of boxes - Martha stewart leds in all sizes - ww and multi 100's of boxes random incan ge clear, twinkling, and fancy styles 10+ rolls of GE commercial 600 light, clear and multi Tons of inflateables and light clips etc.
    9. Does anyone know of a vendor selling Teal fullwave icicle lights?
    10. The cheapest I have ever found LEDs was a 75% off sale on 50ct Holiday Creations half wave for $2.25 a box. This was in 2007 at a new grocery store in an under development part of town in Vegas. I have never seen a deal even close to that since. A presale is your best bet for cheaper than normal prices on LEDs. Or try your luck after christmas...
    11. Will there be any diogen commercial 25 light strings in the presale? I'm thinking that the sealed connections on the commercial strings will cure my gfci tripping problem on my wraped trees in the rain.
    12. I use the timer on my camera so there is no chance of blur from the slight movement of the tripod mounted camera when I touch the shutter button...
    13. So I just folded up my three strings of half out 5mm red 70ct leds from LHL to send back for warranty and..... Now they all work fine...go figure huh? Two strings worked as soon as i pluged them in after folding up for shipping so I bent the wires around on the third string and it started working all the way again. Looks what I thought were bad rectifier blobs was just bad connections somewhere in the string itself...
    14. I lit up a week before thanksgiving... all my lights were up already and we had some snow so I turned 'em on...
    15. I have one string of lights purchased this year with a tag left on... It is a FW 70ct c6 green on white wire and the model # is E305455 Model TSD-35-2. I have these same lights in 50 and 100 ct and they are all shining bright and working fine. These lights have the single "blob" at the start, one in the middle and one at the end. The 100ct have 4 "blobs" I have lost 3 half-sets of FW 70ct 5mm red on green wire this year. These lights have the single "blob" at the start, one in the middle and one at the end. I also lost one half-set of 3 year old HW 50ct m5 green. These were the first H
    16. I take all the white warning tags off... I leave the gold UL tags... What catagory does that put me?
    17. Lowes sold those type of lights a few years ago... Don't think anyone makes them anymore besides the GE multifunction sets... I have a few new boxes of the lowes lights from a few years ago, and about ten strings of used lights... The c9 caps are transparent coated glass so the colors fade just like typical incan mini lights, blues fade fastest etc...
    18. If you are looking for incan. and not led... ACE Hardware sells red on white wire icicle lights in some of their stores. Last year they sold them online but I haven't seen them online this year.
    19. Thanks Bill! I must be blind because the first placeI checked was minions and I only found the male version...
    20. Yeah, Thanks. I actually ordered a few from there. Only issue is that the CLS vampire plugs are for 18-2 spt2 wire and I have 16-2 spt2 wire. I think I can make em work but I would like to have the correct plug for the wire that i have.
    21. So I have searched for hours and I cant find any female vampire plugs to fit 16-2 spt 2 wire. I can find the male plugs but no luck on the female version. Does anyone out there know where to find vampire plugs for 16-2 spt 2?
    22. Asking $30 for all 10 boxes plus shiping. These lights went on craigs list today. Thanks, Chris
    23. If I remember correctly...In 2008 walmart had the darkest purple minis and target lights were on the pinker side. Not shure how they will be this year... I use leds now...you cant beat the color...but the price is another story...
    24. I have 10 boxes of target gold minis for sale if anyone is interested. I paid full price for these about 5 years ago. I'm asking $4.00 a box plus shipping
