Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. I think I got these from Target...either that or Walmart. I am short 2 boxes of Multi C9 with the clear icicles and one box of Red Crystalized Ropelight. I need these ASAP.
  2. I have the LASOC deluxe....6 channels, each 2 amps max for a total of 12 amps. I have a dedicated 20 amp circuit outside. I was curious if I could replace the individual 2 amp fuses (for each channel) with 3 amp fuses and main 12 amp fuse with something higher so that i can run a couple of more lights off each channel. Anyone else have a LASOC and how much load have you put through it total? I have heard people running more than advertised. Thanks, Bill
  3. Due to personal problems, I wont be able to do an animated light show this year (would have been my first). I bought the LOR software about 2-3 months ago and never installed it. I have the actual CD that I am selling. I contacted Dan at LOR to make sure it was okay to transfer it to someone else and he said he was fine with it. I think I paid 99 dollars plus 4 dollars for the CD version plus shipping. Im looking to get 85 shipped OBO. Please no low ball offers. I do need the money but Im not selling this on the cheap. Thanks Bill EDIT: Forgot to add that this version gets the free upgrade to LOR2. I forget the exact version but I can look it up when I get home tonight.
  4. I could not find any white minis during the after Christmas sales. Does anyone have some extra boxes or know of a place that sells them at a decent price? Thanks Bill

  6. Ive had a few PMs asking what exactly I need. Currently I am looking for sets of minis in white red green or possibly another color that isnt blue. Im also looking for spiral trees. I have one right now (6-7 footer) and would like two more that are equal or small size. Cheers, Bill
  7. Hey Roy, Its the same Bill that asked you about your display. My wife and I talked to you for a few minutes that one night. In other words, you are the one that got me started on this addiction
  8. I'm curious if anyone is interested in trading lights or other things I might need for my animated display in exchange for Christmas related graphic design. Perhaps someone needs a design for a sign to advertise the FM frequency they are running their display on, or a logo for their Christmas website, or even animation (like falling snowflakes etc.) for their display projectors. I am a experienced graphic designer and sfx animator (for video), but an animated Christmas light display newbie. Im working on putting together my first display this year and although I got quite a few things during the after Christmas sales, I could always use more! Just curious if there is any demand for this sort of thing. Thanks in advance, Bill

    Target at 90%

Stopped off at at Target near my work. I work an hour away from home and my local Target was out of stock after the 50% off sale. They were stocked pretty well! I walked out with a cart load of lights for 18 bucks. Thanks everyone for the heads up! Bill

  13. EDIT...GOT SOME. I bought two sets of blue and forgot to get 2 sets of white. Not sure if I will make it to Target in time to get some more. I would prefer to get the same brand so the lengths match. If anybody has a couple of sets, let me know. Thanks Bill
