1. I work on and test things outside all the time...especially during the summer. My neighbors are now used to seeing my garage door open on summer weekends with a number of items inside the garage lit up...trees, frames, animation, blow molds, etc. with Christmas music blasting on the stereo. Long time neighbors have learned to ignore me.
2. Wow....I completely missed it.
3. Sorry everyone, but May and June are simply out of the question for me. I have a couple scattered weekends open, but those months are dominated by my work with Project Healing Waters and collected fly fishing and archery events. July slows down some and August is a total blank, but spring is a no-go ESPECIALLY if I need to devote time to organizing the event. I just can't do it. Trudge on without me.
4. After conferring with Mona by phone, how about Saturday, May 28? (FYI: This is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.)

First Snow

I have to remember to not procrastinate like I did last year. We went from snow on the display to snow burying the display in just a couple of hours.
6. Same here. I started setting up lights over the Columbus Day weekend and haven't stopped since. The "warranty" must have expired on my display this year, figuratively speaking. Despite rehabing and testing everything before it left the garage, my evenings have been spent changing bulbs and light strings. It's a pain, but it's a much easier to deal with than seeking out and replacing rain-fried extension cords. I hope everyone stays safe and sane this season.

Hobby Lobby!

I checked the store out last weekend, Hobby Lobby will open tomorrow, Friday Oct 8 at 9 AM. So, it will be open for business through the long weekend.

Hobby Lobby!

Ralph, Here's the link to their website, specifically the tour of their seasonal section which offers Christmas items from July through December. http://www.hobbylobby.com/stores/store_tour.cfm?dept=11 I believe you can shop online also. From what I have seen, it's like a super-duper Michael's. I can't vouch for their light selection, but I'm sure folks from the Texas/Oklahoma area can fill you in.
9. I know I'm a little late to the conversation, but has anyone sequenced music from Evanescence's Fallen CD? I play "Haunted," "Tourniquet" and "Bring Me to Life" at Halloween, but haven't yet sequenced them. http://www.amazon.com/Fallen-Evanescence/dp/B000089RVX/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1285347050&sr=1-1

Hobby Lobby!

Hobby Lobby is opening in Fredericksburg, VA! The store is in the Central Park shopping center right off I-95. Opening day is planned for Oct 11.
11. Thanks for the tip Carrie! I will give this one a shot....but I didn't get past the first line where you mentioned pounding rebar without chills going up my spine.....hard soil here. (Note to self, stage the choir in the garden spot.)
12. Tim, Thanks for sharing the link. I noticed that the ones you order have a shorter sleeve around the bulb than the ones from Bronner's. Have you tried CFLs in them? Not even compact CFLs work in may of my original sockets simply because the sleeve prevents connection. I'm one of those that are too respectful of original parts to bring myself to cut the sleeve down like some do. If CFLs light in them, this could be my solution.
13. There was chatter at the 2010 Mini about the location for the next one. Is there anyone who was seriously thinking of hosting the 2011? Fredericksburg was a location that came up a few times (mostly for the donuts, I think). Since then. Paul Glancy has been digging up information on a possible site in this area. I figured since locations need to be booked pretty far in advance that I would get the conversation started. Where do you all want to hold it next year? Is the same time of year good for folks?
14. I've read through the posts here and have seen Lemax and Dept 56 mentioned, but not some of my favorites. Is there anything particular that you like? If Dept 56, which set, North Pole, Christmas in the City, Snow Village, etc. I display: the Bedford Falls/It's A Wonderful Life set produced by Target, Sears' A Christmas Story set, and the Currier & Ives set sold by JoAnn's some time ago.
15. You don't know torture by Little Drummer Boy until you've heard Johnny Cash's version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hRVGIM4qH4 or The Cranberries:
16. We need to nail down not only when, but where...I'm game.
17. You had better knock on the door!
18. You can't edit posts here? I guess I've been off the forum for a while. Here is a YouTube video I found of Paul's display. I was going to add it to the post above, but....
19. It just occured to me that most of the folks at last weekend's mini have no idea what Paul's display looks like. Here is the link to a write-up on his display from 2005. As you can tell from the photos, everything is GIGANTIC! http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2005/122005/12132005/152437/index_html
20. What a great event! It is getting bigger each year and I am looking forward to next June. I'm willing to take Paul up on his offer and pull together the 2011 Mini. Paul mentioned having the space to host it, so that will be literally downwind of the ovens, GS! Fredericksburg is a moderately convenient location being the crossroads of I-95, Rt 17, Rt 1, & Rt 3. Maybe if we're lucky Paul will show us the train that made such a splash last year!
21. Here is the link to the photos in my photobucket album: http://s108.photobucket.com/albums/n4/mkleder/Virginia%20Mini%20Plus%202010/ Here are some highlights: Stars of the small screen....or would it be more appropriate to say "victims of TLC"? BillV and Al & Esther Thompson Along with far more yummy donuts than any of us could eat, Paul sent along a couple dozen Christmas cupcakes and boxes upon boxes of brownies. Thank you so much Paul! ....but who was there to eat? There are more pictures in the photobucket album.
22. I'll be there around 10. Paul is expecting me at his shop at 8 a.m. and it's a two hour drive for me. Gee, I hope some of the donuts have red and green sprinkles!
23. Lightitup, All is set for Saturday morning pick-up at Paul's Bakery. Has anyone heard if TylerBMC is coming?
24. Thank you, Paul! I would be more than happy to stop by on my way south. I will give you a call to arrange things. I'm looking forward to meeting you. I have enjoyed your display ever since I moved here in 2004.
