• About my display
last year was 32 channels this year I hope to have over 150 channels, this will power 4 arches a mega tree and color changes. I use LOR controllers and software. I have truly tested these controllers, here in craig we will have 2 weeks of -20 degree weather and up to 7 feet of snow (I hope that never happens again) and I had no problems AT ALL!! So for everyone in the mountains, they work just fin in the cold/snow the only problem is finding the controllers when christmas is over...
1. I use 14 LOR controllers in the chain with 2 d-light controllers with LOR software with no problems, if everything is fading from 0-100% you can tell a difference (the d-light controllers are a little choppy) i do not know if this is the controllers or the software. HTH
2. I wasn't complaining at all! lol We do not even enter the contest because I would rather someone else win anyway, someone else always enters our house. It was just a shocker to see it on the front page of the paper for the SECOND time in one week. As for my walmart after Christmas shopping this morning, I ended up with about 200 sets of soft white LEDs for like 3.50 a set, and a bunch of red and green ones as well, so not all walmarts run out of lights before they go 50% off we even got alot of red and green incandescents... Thanks for the feedback!
3. Check this out, we have won this competition for the past 3 years and now look what they are saying. Merry Christmas Everyone of PC! http://www.craigdailypress.com/photos/2010/dec/23/35153/
4. Here is i video of Mister Sandman on our display, I saw it on Holdman's site and had to do it, I think when i put the music back in it is off by just a tiny bit. Fantastic song! Its on facebook so you will need a facebook account... http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=178796258805965&oid=139869772697348&comments
5. Here is the thread that I discussed my spiral tree: http://forums.planetchristmas.com/showthread.php/45584-Spiral-Trees
6. Definitely looks better than my first year lol
7. Turn up the volume, and sorry about the poor quality I will sit out there with a nice cam/tripod later let me know what you think!
8. Looks good, its just the beginning of a very costly hobby, I remember my first computerized display (about like yours) now I have 256 channels.... Good job
9. We actually built the star like 3 years ago, it is the same as Holdman's just about 4' tall, it is a metal frame (that we designed and welded together) and I put clear rope lights on it along with 4 strobes from Wow lights.
10. Here are some daylight photos I took this morning the lights on the top in the back are a little closer together than in the front but you cannot tell at night when its on, actually when I turn it completely on you cant even tell that it spirals. Let me know what you think!
11. My top 5 comments: "It's on the radio station?? How did you do that??" "How much did it cost?" "Are those special lights?" "Do the lights just hear the music and flash like that?" "Wow"
12. I attached the animation sequence to this post. The tree its self is 22' tall, the lights are all cable tied to the center pole to make them go up to a point and not have a unsightly flat top since our star is about 18" above the tip of the tree. The first thing we did after the tower was standing and secured was attached the ends of all the lights to the top, 5 at a time and stretched them way out away from the tower (we attached them to our fence that is about 15' away to keep them up out of the way) We used 32, 30 foot sets of blue LEDs. We had to put all of the lights up there fi
13. I have had this same problem come and go, it seems like one night it is just fine then the next it isn't but it only happened once in my Halloween show, I have yet to have it happen yet for Christmas this year. Keeping fingers crossed but it really drives you crazy. I will follow this thread for sure.
14. I will try to get some daylight photos on here tonight along with dimensions and stuff.
15. Just send me your e-mail, I would gladly share! It is on my home computer so i wouldn't be able to get it to you til later tonight.
