Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

try to make it larger each year
  1. not sure if im missing something but i dont see any video or link to one.
  2. i measured the resistance value last nite of the aux jack thru the fm transmitter with the transmitter on. The resistance value was high at 20,ooo ohms. My original theory of the resisance being too low was way off. That being said, does anyone have any theorys as to how the high resistance caused the failure of the internal amp circuit.
  3. Unfortunatly 2.5 weeks of using my new mr christmas box(with modified/added aux jack) the same issue occured and the sound went out. I did my diagnostic and figured it was the internal amplifer soldered onto the circuit board. I bought 2 new amplifer chips and soldered one into each unit, and now they are working with full sound and back to normal operation. My opinion is the resistance value of the aux jack/and fm transmitter is very low compared to the 8 ohms the speaker has. The lower resistance caused extra load and burnt out the amp circuit. hopefully if anyone in the future has this issue, this post helps.thanks
  4. I Run a mr christmas box that i puchased from another member. It was modded to use a relay box behind it that trips the relays instead of using the internal mr chrismas relays. it can handle more lights that way. looks nice and most people wont know its only 6 channels. Ive tired to sequence a few songs and lost interest after about 3 weeks of sitting on my cpu each nite late and stressing it. Thats the harder part of a controlled display in my opinion. mr christmas is cruise control once your set up. Full cpu controlled lights at a 16 channel set up with software and hardware is probally around $400 or so. Its a big step over the mr chrismas. Im tryng to get the wife to program so i can move up to a 32 channel controlled display. In your case 16 channels programed seemless to the music will look much better than what you may have. However if you programming is random or not quite to the music very well it may not look much grander than what you have now with the 6 channel mr christmas set up. Either way, it will look nice. Lets see a video of you set up in action.
  5. i eneded up buying a new box. the internal circuit board amp is hard to find locally so ill just fix and sell it after christmas im concerned about using this new one in the same manner. pretty sure ive heard or read stuff of other people doing this mod to the mr christmas boxes. The cable was also new that i used.
  6. using a 4 yr old mr christmas box for my display. The person i bought it from had added an aux jack underneath for the fm transmitter. The speaker was working fine. i hooked up the aux jack to my whole house transmitter and raised the volumn on the mr christmas since it was very low audio in the car i was testing my fm transmission to. When i removed the aux plug i no longer had audio, and not enough output to my fm transmitter to work.. Im going to try to fix it, however im worried it was the fm transmitter that caused something to burn out or fail. Im also concerned if i buy a new unit, and modify the aux input also it will cause this on the new unit. I opened it up and it was just soldered to the pos/neg speaker leads and done by a skilled person so installation was ok. anyone here have this current type of set up.
  7. i have half a set of leds out on a large wreath i have. the bulbs are not removeable. im going to check all basics like fuses and loose wires. Does anyone have any proven ways of trying to bypass or find the issue. I was thinking of maybe using an inductive clamp or probe or maybe using a jumper wire and probing the wire and jumping out over each bulb 1 by 1 to see if that helps. any advice will be great as i love this wreath..
  8. good advice, and appreciated. I hear lor has a feature that slows down the song half way. Seems like it would be a good feature. Aurora has a few nice options also. I will look into buying these premade sequences and borrowing others. I would take more pride if i did it myself however, i loose interest quick and sitting on the cpu each nite from 10-11:30 to sequence gets tiring , especially when 6am arrives and i need to go to my work. (dance instructer)
  9. Each year it tell myself im going synched lights next year, and each year i postpone it til its too late. I did a mr christmas box set up last yr but want more. Im aiming on 32 channels, and currenlty have aurora software which ive been playing around with. Currenlty im working on band aid, do they know its christmas time and its beating me up and taking way long. ( my wife says i cant dance so im going to be bad at programming lights also). I understand its time consuming and have gotten much better with aurora. I feel maybe this song is faster than i should be starting with.Im also trying hard to get the lights set up to the exact beat of the song which seems to be overly hard with a faster song. Im looking for tips , advice and any songs the veterns of this feel may be easy to program. I like the faster christmas songs since i feel it will entertain people more than a slower song. i was considering Oh come all ye faithful, by twisted sister, as another one of my songs. Thanks everyone
  10. Nice to hear you have not had any issues this year. Are you using video cameras. ive mounted cameras on 2x4 sections and knocked garden posts in into the ground to hold the 2x4 with the camer on it. Not the nicest looking set up, but it stands out and makes people aware of them. This may ward off any jokers wishing ot mess with your items.
  11. WIERD, mine got tangled up and since the guys inside froze and the top motor kept spinning. Theres like an air motor at the top that controls the spinning part. Its hard to get at i had to unzip the nearest zipper and jam my hand in and grab the plastic spining part to stop it and untwist the fabric. You probally have something going wrong there. I would recommend you fill it up and access this top round spinning part and see if anything there seems incorrect. I cant really explain it other than its at the top where the inside guys twist and its a med sized 5-6 inch plastic disc that allows the inside parts to spin.
  12. WOW what a cluster you know what. I was at lowes this morn blown some cash on leds and found this 3 dollar off once i got to work. I shot over during work hours and printed like 40. I was aiming at 50ct micro leds and 25 ct c7 multis that i bought this morn and cost 3.88 each. Well to my supprise they were now 2.89 a box, so i could not even use this coupon . I had to get something,,,, so i loaded up with 12 100ct micro leds c7-multis 50 ct- 2 boxes c5- red and 1 blue- 4 boxes, well as expected i recieved oppostion at the register to use these, and the manager came over and was only going to allow me to use one only ,not per box. I told him others are using it with no problems and asked him to honor it this one time. He agreed and allowed the cashier to proceed. Well on top of that the casher messed up several times and it got hairy to say the least. Somehow or another after 20 minutes he just gave me all the boxes for 3 bucks each, total tax and all was 57.25 how did i do? Was a bit of a mess using them, but i was sucessful this time. Wish i had seen this coupon a few days back since i have purchased at least 14 sets of ge lights since than. Thanks to the finder of this gem.
