Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. I built one like this a few years ago. I'm using some shrunken skulls of various sizes for my fenials (parger ones on the fence posts, and smaller ones on the stiles). I just use toothpicks and small dowels to hold them in tops.

I also hang some netting and cobwebs randomly on the fence.

I'm hoping to get some purple or red rope light to light it up a little bit - some kids almost walked thru it because it was dark.

I used some great-stuff foam to fill in the ends for my fenials, but after a while it has broken down on me. Might switch to a silicon caulk to help.

To make the panels the first time ( getting parts, cutting, painting, and assembling) 6 - 8' panels took about 2-3 days, and I took my time....plus it was in the middle of summer when I did it. Assembly each October takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

  2. I need to start taking the OLD lights off my twig trees, and get them ready for the new LED's I'll be getting this month. I've got 6 trees to re-wire, and no idea on how to do them correctly.

Then there are my 9 wreaths for the windows, I had them wired with half-wave multi color lights, but didn't like it very much. So, they're coming off and and new full-wave warm white are going on.

Then there is the is making a new string of C9's/icicles for the 2nd floor gutter, That's not too bad it's only 40ft. Then there is the 65 ft string on the 1st floor gutter. That gutter string had 6 colors in it (R,B,G,O,Y,P), and I'm taking the purple and orange bulbs out and shifting everything down, then filling in the missing with more Red, Blue, Green, and yellow. I also need to add more zip ties to the C9's/icicles to hold them together and the gutter clips on.

I just need to get motivated....

  3. I've sent a message to Chuck about this already, but in case he doesn't see it, is there another Mod that can start to look into this....

Today when I try to access the site and forums, I'm being told hte site is a malicious site and I have to manually tell Firefox to ignore it and take me to the site anyway..

I get this trying to get to the site....

  4. From what I see the top pic going left to right on each resistor... Any chance of a closer pic of the two resistors on one end of each board? It's looks like theie is another band or two on them and that can change the entire value of the resistors depending on teh color bands I'm seeing they could be 2.2 ohm, or 2.2K ohms...

red, red, brown - brown, green purple? (for the middle 6 resistors) - then a red, red, brown.

    Bottom pic:

Red, purple, brown - red, red, brown (for middle 6 resistors) - red, red, brown.

red, red, brown - 221 ohm

brown, green, purple - 157 ohm

red, purple, brown - 271 ohm

  5. Bringing up an older topic.

Extreme Home Makeover is is Knoxville, TN shooting an episode that's supposed to air around Thanksgiving/Christmas. They are doing the reveal tomorrow (Tuesday). They've had to deal with snow, ice, rain, narrow roads, lots of traffic, and well over 2000 volunteers on this build.

Paul - Do you know if your lights are being used on this build or not?

  6. Thank Jacob - I went ahead and submitted my order. after I re-read your post above mine.

THANKS for putting this together for us. This is only my second purchase of LED's (the last one was back during Travis' "BAD" year), and this purchase will convert the rest of my static display to LED. THANKS again.

  7. Jacob - On the order page you have on the White Wire listing there is a Multi 70count showing, but on the check out page it does not say it's White wire. Can you confirm you will have a Multi Color on White wire, and if it's 50, 70 or 100 count. I really need to know as I want to get my order in this week.

ok, just saw the post above.... it just doesn't say white wire on check out and it scared me.
