Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  • Biography
A Christmas light enthusiast myself, I started selling Christmas lights on eBay in 2007. I'm a 10+ year eBay member with 100% positive feedback. I stock lights from various retail outlets as well as wholesale suppliers. Please contact me if I can assist you at all with finding lights, especially out-of-season. My eBay Store website is: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Christmas-Light-Outlet
  • Interests
Christmas lights, eBay, my garden and my family.
  • Occupation
    Internet based Christmas light sales
  • About my display
I put about 60,000 lights on my house every year (I stopped counting a few years ago). However, I admit that I'm not very good at making artistically pretty displays. I love to get out the ladder and wire ties in October/November and have a (semi) good excuse to play with electricity, pop a few breakers and blow a few fuses.
  1. Bhays, $838.94 + shipping for 280 each of red, blue and green (840 total) C9 full-wave retro-fit LED bulbs. Thanks, Brian
  2. Here's about the best that I can do for whole-case purchases (24 strings/case) paid via PayPal (skipping the sales commissions from eBay). I have about 50 cases each of clear mini bulbs on white and green wire, 100 bulbs/string, 3.5" spacing. I can sell these strings for $4.79 each * 24 strings/case = $114.96 + $20 estimated UPS Ground shipping charge = $134.96 per case. I also have about 20 cases each of the same type of lights in Mardi Gras colors (alternating purple, green, gold) and US Patriotic (alternating red, frost white, blue) that I can make the same deal on ($134.96/case shipped). I'm also overstocked with multi-purpose white plastic light clips. Each box of 100 is normally $3.99, but I'll reduce that to $2.99 for PlanetChristmas members. I also have a ton of retro-fit (screw-in) LED C7 and C9 full-wave bulbs that range from $20-$30 per pack of 25 bulbs. The only color I'm running low on is C7 Warm White. Other colors are red, purple, blue, green, yellow, amber, pink, and cool white. I only have about 1/2 dozen 1000 foot C7/C9 spools left. Thanks everyone, Brian PS - In the past 12 months, I've had 3800 feedback remarks left for me on eBay and only 2 negative ones. A number of PlanetChristmas members are return customers - I actually found out about PlanetChristmas from one of my return Canadian customers.
  3. Due to an unfortunate turn of events with my personal life, I have to close my Christmas light business. I sell lights on eBay. 2010 will be my last year in business unless I can get back into it later. If you want/need off-season lights, commercial grade or cheap standard grade, please contact me at [email protected] My website (e-store) is http://stores.ebay.com/Christmas-Light-Outlet. Feel free to browse my selection. I will give a 5% discount off any order from Planet Christmas members who email me directly instead of purchasing through eBay. Please send me the auction item #, quantity desired, and your shipping zip code so I can work up an accurate quote for you. Thanks everyone and have a blessed, BRIGHT, and happy Christmas in 2010, Brian aka cloutlet Christmas Light Outlet
  4. Yep, glad you rember me.......we were making the mini trees..... I will be emailing you at the end of the month to purchase our final 8 boxes - 4 red - 4 green..... Thanks again, Matt www.santaigrhs.weebly.com

  5. Yes, I remember your orders and I appreciate it. I believe you were making some small trees with those lights.

  6. Well cloutlet, I doubt you rember us but we purchased several boxes of green and red lights form ebay last month from you, thanks again... Matt www.santaigrhs.weebly.com

  7. Someone just passed me a virtual note mentioning that sprinkling blood-based fertilizer around the bushes and trees would keep the furry critters away. Anyone have experience with this? I did not know blood-based fertilizers existed.
  8. That video compilation still has me laughing. I haven't laughed this much in a while. The snake suggestion was also good (and possibly a bit more practicle). Many thanks. Please keep the suggestions coming in if possible.
  9. Ernie, Thanks for the idea. I would not have thought of "appeasement" as a successful tactic against these small, furry, wire-eating critters. Bribery had not crossed my mind either (I wonder what the ethical considerations should be regarding bribing such an elusive enemy). Additional thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  10. One of my Canadian customers is having a terrible time with squirrels chewing through his string lights which are on display year-round. I'm looking for non-lethal suggestions to keep these furry critters on a wire-free diet. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
  11. Shaun (and everyone else), I sell Christmas lights on eBay year-round as a 2nd job (a home-based family business). While I can't match $2.99 for a set of 100 minis, I do have roughly 750 sets of 100 minis on sale at $3.80 each.
