  1. I agree with the others.  My Wal-Mart lights seem to last just as long, if not longer than, lights I've purchased from the online retailers and they fade just as well.  It was nice to see lots of green LED mini lights this year at War-Mart.  Usually I have to purchase green lights on line.

At the Wal-Mart prices, I don't even try to repair lights anymore.  If a set doesn't light, I throw it in the trash and break out a new set.  It takes me long enough to assemble my show, I don't have time for repairs.

  2. I go live on Thanksgiving night.  I've had people tell me that they come by every year on their way home from Thanksgiving dinner, so I can't change it now.  I try to have the show complete the Saturday before, allowing for last minute tweaking and shooting some video without any cars out front.  The neighbors give me some funny looks on that weekend, but I don't care.  I know I've got a screw loose.

  3. A couple of years back, just after Christmas, a guy came to our door and told my wife he had a bunch of wire frames that he got from his sister's estate and he wanted to donate them to our display.  A couple of days later, I came home from work and a bunch of boxes were leaning against the house.  There were 8 reindeer and a santa sleigh.  They were very old, but still in the original boxes.  The wire frames were better made than anything you can get these days, but the light sets were in really bad shape.  Over the summer that year, I took them out and harvested enough working lights to get three reindeer working with the legs in motion, using the original controllers.  They didn't exactly fit with my display, but I felt I had to find a place for them since he was kind enough to donate them and because they meant something to him, coming from his deceased sister.  They have been a part of my display since.

Maybe one of these years I will get ambitious enough to re-wire the rest of the set.  I can't bring myself to get rid of the rest of the frames.

  4. I have been wondering the same thing. I use the Philips c6 LED strings in my display. I got a bunch of them in red, green and cool white at Target on 12/26 a couple of years ago. As my display has grown, I have been able to get the red and white at target, but have had to order green c6s online.

Does anyone know if this is a demand issue? Or is it more expensive to make green LEDs? I'm just curious as to the reason.
